This soft-ripened little wheel is a delightful French cheese from the region of Jura in the French Alps. It has been washed every other day for the first few weeks of ageing to give this cheese an orange hue with a fruity and pungent aroma. It is creamy and mild, yet exciting with its funky bouquet. For those who know the classic Reblochon cheese, this is the closest representation imported to the US. (Reblochon uses raw milk and is not aged long enough to be imported!)
While delicious on its own, and with a glass of Côtes du Rhône, you can bake this cheese into your traditional French Tartiflette dish! If you don’t know what that is… it’s a little something like this: Chunks of potato, sautéd bacon or lardons and onions, garlic, nutmeg, thyme, s&p, crème frâiche topped with your cheese wheel halves and baked in the oven! Le Délice du Jura makes the perfect addition to this dish.
